A Tribute to Tammy
Friday, January 31 2020Tammy Foster Perpetual Trophy – Vale Tammy
On Friday 23rd October this year at our 3rd Annual Learning for Life Golf Day, we will be stepping up the stakes a notch by launching the Tammy Foster Perpetual Trophy.
The Trophy honours the inspiring founding golf committee member, Tammy Foster, who gave us the confidence to start an Annual Golf Day fundraising event. After all, our small events team had never even been to a charity golf day nor a golf competition ever before!
Tragically, after an 18-month battle with cancer, Tammy passed away peacefully with her wife and sisters by her side on Wednesday 22 January 2020.
Tammy was a wonderful sportswoman having played for the Australian Women’s Cricket team and a top amateur golfer and cyclist. Being a member of Green Acres Golf Club, Tammy was able to steer us in the right direction and give us the “how to guide” to running a charity golf day at Green Acres Golf Club, Kew.

Tammy founded a charity, the Tammy Foster Foundation, which ran an annual charity golf day funding people living with cancer struggling financially. Tammy set up the foundation in honour of her brother, Jason. Even whilst dealing with her own battle with cancer in the midst of our inaugural 2018 golf event planning, Tammy remained enthusiastic, supportive and positive. She shared all her knowledge of how to run such an event including sharing templates, managing volunteers, organising activities on the course and rallying players, sponsors and raffle/auction donations.
Tammy took on a passion for our work at Learning for Life Autism Centre. She continued in her role as a committee member in 2019 and garnered support of sponsors including the Heating Cooling Company cart sponsor and Brookline Financial Planners as hole sponsor. Craig and his team from the Heating and Cooling company, with Tammy’s encouragement, partially sponsored the new air conditioning at our L4Life centre which has allowed children, families and staff to manage their work in the hot summer months.

One of the highlights of last year’s golf day was Tammy meeting “She Loves Golf” ambassador and comedienne from New Zealand, Urzila Carlson. Urzila sends her condolences to Julie and Tammy’s family.
‘Love’, ‘compassion’, ‘enthusiasm’, ‘excitement’, ‘competition’, ‘inclusion’ and ‘care’ are words we associate with Tammy. These permeate through our L4Life Village and we are thrilled to honour Tammy and her amazing spirit of support of people and their struggles plus passion for golf. Tammy we love you and will miss you, rest in peace!
