L4Life’s Village was in Motion

Saturday, August 8 2020

Our yearly Village participation and fundraising event, Run Melbourne, did not go ahead as usual in 2020 under the circumstances of COVID-19. But we still wanted to bring our Team L4Life together (while staying apart) and get moving during the cold and isolated winter. So instead, our community participated in our challenge: L4Life Village in Motion.

2020 L4Life Village in Motion

On the weekend of Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th in July 2020, we welcomed all of our L4Life Village to get in motion! Everyone in our Village, from all locations, at any age or stage, with varying abilities, created their own in-motion challenge. Who would have thought lockdown would have promoted more inclusion!

Most of Victoria was in the middle of its second lockdown, with wearing masks being compulsory. But the weather was on Melbourne’s side; we we lucky with two perfect winter days! It was so wonderful to see our Village being active and getting motion while keeping safe and healthy.

Thank you to those who joined our challenge to get in motion! We loved seeing the different adventures and challenges you all enjoyed.

2020 L4Life's Village in Motion weekend

We had 20 participants; families and individuals of all ages (Anita from Team Lollop is 97 years old!), who walked, ran and cycled, some with their canine pals), over one day, two days, and even three days, (Pam was up in the snow!), going as far as they could; all to challenge their own abilities. We also had the Rotary Club of Kew and their supporters get involved. To see more from our participants and the challenges they took on, click here.

Thank you those who fundraised as part their challenge and those who donated; you all raised a wonderful $1,947 to support the work of Learning for Life.

These funds will contribute to Fair Access to life-changing programs for kids with autism from families who cannot afford them, helping our L4Life kids learn to learn, communicate, develop social and independence skills to reach their potential, and at the same time take some of the stress out of their families’ lives.
